The delicate balance between a contemporary home that offers ample privacy to those within its confines and still manages to allow them an unabated view of the scenic landscape is a hard one to accomplish. A smart solution is often found in the form of a street façade that keeps away prying eyes while incorporating a rear section that opens up to the scenery that surrounds the house. Accomplishing precisely this is the creative 66 Heathdale Residence in Toronto, Canada. Designed by TACT Design INC. with a distinct Cor-Ten steel face, the three-story family dwelling definitely stands out from the other mundane homes in the neighborhood.
The weathered and metallic appeal of the Cor-Ten Steel façade does give the lovely residence a uniqueness that draws your attention instantly, even as the rest of the house embraces a far more familiar contemporary style. On the inside it is neutral hues that hold sway, with shades of gray, white and warm wooden accents fashioning open living spaces and cozy private quarters that feel both elegant and inviting. A sculptural staircase connects the three floors, with the kitchen, dining area and living space being housed on the ground level and a gorgeous study and wraparound terrace on the third floor.
It is the kitchen and dining area on the lower level that are connected visually with the rear yard, thanks to the large, floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors, even as the second level features a smart and beautiful family zone that overlooks the lush green canopy outside. Sensible in its design and visually dramatic, this striking house nestled on the ravine of Cedarvale Park is an absolute showstopper! [Photography: David Giral]
