The appearance of the front of your home is just as important as what’s on the inside – and, in some cases, even more important. It’s the first impression people have of your style, your taste and your skills in keeping your home. Additionally, it can be the point at which people decide they want to buy a home – or turn it down. Sometimes, though, porches can become a little lackluster – especially during colder months when the flowers and warm weather shrubs have disappeared.
In order to ensure your porch is vibrant and fresh, consider these three porch pick-me-ups.
Seasonal Displays – Decking your front door with smiling skeletons each October and a jolly Santa Clause each December isn’t for everyone, but there are ways to spice up your stoop without these typical choices. You can always opt for more high-end options, or more chic décor. For fall, add some different colored gourds and a cinnamon brooms, and for winter some natural garland can add a colorful touch.
Elegant Seating – From old wooden rockers and porch swings to sweet padded benches and versatile rattan, there are dozens of options for seating. In addition to making your front porch look more welcoming to guests, placing a few comfortable seating options outside your door may also encourage you to enjoy your own outdoor living space more often.
Lighting– It’s easy to overlook your light fixtures, but cleaning them up can make a major difference in the look and feel of your porch. Consider replacing your current front porch light with something more updated. Take time to regularly remove dust, dirt, cobwebs and insects that made have made their home in your lighting. In addition, flameless candles and solar powered lanterns can add some soft supplementary lighting to really make your front porch stand out.
