The curtains have gone up, the winners have been declared. Wallpaper, the international fashion and lifestyle, design magazine has announced the winners of its 2012 design awards.
Eleven of the awards have been decided by a panel of judges that includes cross-dressing artist Grayson Perry; New York-based Uruguayan architect Rafael Viñoly; Swiss art auctioneer and co-founder of Phillips de Pury, Simon de Pury; head of Bulthaup, the German kitchen manufacturer, Gerd Bulthaup; and photographer/art director/illustrator Jean-Paul Goude.
The remaining award winners have been selected by the magazine’s editors and international contributors. The celebration of winners and nominees was held on 11th January at10 Trinity Square, a would-be luxury hotel and member’s club by 2014.
So here’s the list of the cream among the creative crop. The winners of the 11 main awards for design decided by the judges are London, for best city; Hepworth Wakefield, UK by David Chipperfield Architects for best new architects; Nendo, as the Designer of the year; Playa Vik José Ignacio in Uruguay by Carlos Ott was named the best new or renovated hotel, and the award for the best new restaurant went to Sur Mesure, Paris, by Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku.
The best new domestic design was awarded to Rodolfo Dordoni, for Set oven hood; Raf Simons bagged the award for best new men’s fashion collection, whereas the Best new women’s fashion collection went to Givenchy, by Riccardo Tisci.
A rather peculiar award called the Life-enhancer of the year was given to the lookout point at Ruta del Peregrino inMexico, which was created by HHF Architects. The Pringiers House in Sri Lankaby Tadao Ando was accredited the best new private house and the award for the best new grooming product was bagged by the Color cosmetics collection, by Tom Ford.
The other awards included in the list featured various categories in best domestic designs, home designs, architecture and best furniture pieces, fashion accessories, and anything and everything that comes under fashion and lifestyle. For all the details on the awards and winners, head here.
