Inspired by the London’s Design Museum history, where the designer did her residency, the Particle furniture collection reminds us of the times when the museum was a banana warehouse back when the Port of London was used to import and export goods. Based on this discovery, Bethan Laura Wood created a furniture system inspired by crates and packaging materials.
Part of Bethan’s Super Fake series, the Particle furniture collection uses faux wood-laminate variations donated by Abet Laminati to create new patterns and shapes. The interwoven laminates shape a beautiful, interesting pattern used to decorate several furniture pieces. Designed to hold glass or foam components upholstered with a bespoke knit fabric, each piece displays a playful view of the collection. Collaborating on the fabric with Giannina Capitani, the designer managed to give a new face to the world of packaging-inspired furniture.
