The Gravity Stool is a fantastic idea! Made as part of Amsterdam-based Jólan van der Wiel’s graduation project, the Gravity Stool captures the power of magnetic fields and gravity into an amazingly artistic piece of furniture. Starting from the idea that gravity has an enormous influence on shaping the world around us, the artist designed the series of stools that display a weird organic shape.
The magnets placed in different positions enabled the artist to play with the unique shapes of each chair in the collection. Two important items allowed Jolan to create the stools – the magnet machine and the plastic material. Legs were naturally developed by the influence of gravity and magnets, while the seating part of the chair remained secured in a bowl, creating a uniform finish. Love it?
