Renovating an old house turned out to be an inspired choice for a young couple from Alingsås, Sweden. Resting on a 65sqm lot on the shores of lake Gärdsken, the Aluminum House used to be a small wooden two storey house with a basement in stone and vernacular detailing. The renovation turned it into a modern home by adding another level of rooms in the back garden. The extension of the house is heated with floor heating. The city planning office required window openings in the front of the house to look good from the street so the architects from UNIT arkitektur ab came up with shaping trellis of aluminum for growing vines. Until the vines grow, the aestetics of the home is improved.
