This breathtaking creation by Durbach Block Architects is located in Dover Heights, Sydney, facing the Pacific Ocean over a 70 meter cliff drop.
The highly modern residence, supposedly inspired by a Picasso painting, has concrete volumes cantilevering in elastic geometry, on inclined black columns, over the stone core housing the service spaces and the vertical cliff, and enjoys a spectacular sight. The fluidity of the general shape is given by opposing curves. While making full use of the fantastic natural setting, the design team have neglected no detail, carefully replanting the various plant species thriving on the exposed cliff. The result is a complex flowing and dramatic dwelling, swept by light and the omnipresence of the ocean around and below.
